I already have an existing cypro wall inbetween two bedrooms but need to make it more sound proof. Can I install the QuietRock just over top of the existing wall?
The type of wall construction and the details associated with how the wall is constructed will affect the level of sound reduction that can be achieved using QuietRock (wall details include: type/size of the stud, stud spacing, insulation used, wall type such as single, staggered or double stud configuration, and number of layers of drywall applied on the wall).
QuietRock installed -- (retrofit over) to an existing “standard” or commonly built single wood or steel stud wall (characterized as 2x4 studs spaced at 16” apart with one layer of drywall on each side and 3.5” batt insulation between the studs) -- can provide as much as 25-40% additional sound reduction compared to the same wall with conventional drywall materials installed on each side.
See our Quiet Soundproofing System and/or our Assembly Guide directory to find specific lab-based test results for different wall assemblies.
